Haptotherapy
Haptotherapy is a body-oriented therapy that helps bring thinking, feeling, and doing back into balance. In haptotherapy, you rediscover your emotional life. Feeling is something we can all do — and do all the time. Sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously. As a result, we miss many of the signals our body sends us. This is a shame, because those signals provide valuable information. In haptotherapy, you learn to recognize your body’s signals again.
Why haptotherapy?
When we feel safe, we can find peace within ourselves. We feel at home with ourselves. When we feel unsafe, we withdraw or drown ourselves out. We fight or flee. In haptotherapy, we explore what you need to feel safe within yourself, so that you can come home — and stay home — with yourself. From that safe foundation, you can grow and develop. This also helps you in your connection with others; to engage with others in a natural way.
For whom?
I work with adults aged 18 and over who experience stress and tension complaints that they cannot resolve through talking alone. The felt tension can manifest as physical complaints, low mood, anxiety, being overwhelmed by emotions, or feeling numb or blocked.
Perhaps you recognize this:
- “I’m too much in my head”
- “I keep trying to meet other people’s expectations. I’d like to follow my own path more”
- “I’d like to deepen my contact with others — it feels too superficial right now”
- “I feel there is more in me than is coming out”
- “Talking about feelings makes me nervous — I often avoid it”
Method
As a haptotherapist, I work with conversation, experiential exercises, and touch to increase body awareness and reconnect mind and body. By not only talking but also experiencing, this creates felt insights.
My approach is tailored to your pace. Brief where possible, longer where needed. On average, a treatment course consists of 8 sessions of one hour. Haptotherapy is partially reimbursed through supplementary health insurance.
